For the uninitiated, a bad beat is when you lose a hand that you should really have won. In many cases bad beats happen when a not too good player makes a bad move but the luck of the cards save his bacon. For instance, he might call hoping for a statistically highly unlikely card combination on say the turn and the river. This kind of player will either eventually go bust or mend his ways, but that doesn’t help if you have been caught out by him.

The other kind of bad beat is when you lose your full house to a straight. Perhaps you would consider this to be bad luck, but in this type of bad beat you have nobody to blame but yourself as you should have seen it coming.  

Nobody likes getting a bad beat, but you shouldn’t let it make you hit the rails or go on tilt. Playing poker on emotion is always a bad way to play poker. Everybody has bad beat stories after all.

Firstly the jackpot is progressive and grows with every poker hand that is played. At the time of writing it was about half a million Euros, but that can change all the time. In order to play for it you need to select a table that displays a bad beat symbol which indicates that it is a bad beat table. To qualify, you need to include both your pocket cards in your losing or winning hand and the hand must at least four sixes and there have to be at least four people in the game.

The player with the losing hand gets 35% of the jackpot, the winning hand and other players get 17.5%, 10% goes to PokerHeaven as an admin fee and 20% starts the next jackpot.
