Does Isildur1 Have a New Handle?

Spreading like wildfire is the suggestion that the enigmatic Isildur1 is again playing online poker, but this time he is using a new nickname, Omlphalotus.

Whilst Isildur is a fictional character that features in several of JRR Tolkien’s books, a character that met with an untimely death, Omlphalotus is an altogether different kettle of fish.  The almost identically named Omphalotus is a kind of mushroom better known as the American Jack O’Lantern mushroom. It is very poisonous and has the appearance of Chanterelle mushrooms, a very popular edible variety. The toxic Omphalotus has on many occasions been confused with the tasty Chanterelle with obvious consequences.

Since Isildur1 lost most of his bankroll in a number of nose bleeding games, little if anything has been heard of him for over a month. It had been reported that he had been seen playing in some low stake games in an attempt to rebuild his cash, but those sightings have also dried up.

Over recent weeks another mystery player from Sweden has been playing relatively low to medium stake games on Full Tilt Poker and at Betfair. Going by the handle of Omlphalotus, he has a few things in common with Isildur1. Several players have reported that Omlphalotus’ style of play is very similar to that of Isildur1 and he likes to play for long sessions on several tables simultaneously, a definite trademark of Isildur1. He also plays in a similarly aggressive manner and frequently three bets and plays on most hands. The strategy seems to be paying off too, and he has been winning in some relatively high stake games.

It was inevitable that Isildur1 would eventually return to the poker tables, even if it was to be a re-launch under a different name.
