Last year Ulliott beat 151 other players to gain the title. The event is a no limit Hold’em with a 5,000 Euro buy-in. By doing so he collected the first prize of 152,000 Euro.

It is reported that Ulliott is currently writing his autobiography; it should make some interesting reading when it is published. No doubt he will write about his upbringing in Hull in England and how he was involved in the local gangland of the city.

He was brought up in a small council house and his dad Stanley was a truck driver who had fought in the Second World War as a paratrooper. Tragedy visited the family early on and Dave lost his sister to cancer. He left school without any qualifications as soon as he could and got a job, but soon found that he had a knack of picking winners at the horse races.

He became involved with violence and crime, joining a gang of safebreakers. Eventually he was caught and received a custodial sentence. Other sentences followed, but by the time he was thirty he had decided to leave crime behind to concentrate on poker.

He has been successful in both cash and tournament games and has made several television appearances. He has won one WSOP bracelet along with 27 money finishes in the WSOP.

Now he is taking a break from writing to defend his title.
