Julian Thew has already enjoyed a successful start to his career as a poker professional, though at times he has experienced some substantial variance as he has swung from losing to winning positions on many occasions; so much so in fact that his nickname is yo-yo indicating the manner in which his chip stack oscillates.

His success has come mainly through the European Poker Tour (EPT) in which he has finished in the money on eight occasions and has twice appeared on EPT final tables. He won the Baden bei Wien event in Austria and collected a first prize of € 670,800.

Another major win was the Main Event at the Grosvenor Grand Challenge in London  in 2005 where he collected £48,000 and his career poker winnings amount to around $2,400,000. In terms of rankings, he is the 13th player on the EPT leader board which makes him the UK’s highest ranked player.

The other PokerStars professionals in the team are Vicky Coren, J.P. Kelly,  John Duthie, and Jude Ainsworth. Julian yoyo Thew has the reputation of being one of the most feared EPT players due mainly to his aggressive playing style. Before signing with PokerStars, Thew was sponsored by William Hill Poker.

The UKIPT Manchester was won by a Joeri Zandvlie, a student from the Netherlands, defeating 517 other players, and collected a prize of £63,200. Jack Ellwood from the UK finished in second place with the final hand being Ace Queen versus pocket nines and the flow rewarding Zandvlie with another Queen.
