Seven thousand three hundred and nineteen poker players from a total of 92 countries entered, a record, but after a few days of intensive poker only nine of them were permitted to win a seat on the final table which will take place in November. The November Nine as they are called are:

Filippo Candio, a 26 year old from Sardinia and a PokerStars professional player. He will be the very first Italian to sit at the most prestigious of all poker final tables. He is a mean poker player and his tournament winnings to date exceed $1 million;

Joseph Cheong who is 24 and a Korean currently resident in California. He has degrees in both psychology and mathematics though is a relative newcomer to poker with tournament winnings of around £50,000;

John Dolan who is also 24 year old from Florida. He is a serious online player and has several WSOP cashes.

Jonathan Duhamel is the youngest of the nine. He is 21 years and is the chip leader with twice as many chips as John Dolan, the player in second place. He is from Canada and is a PokerStars qualifier.

Matthew Jarvis, a 25 year old Canadian and general odd job man striking out for a new career in poker.

Michael Mizrachi, a 29 year old and holder of the WSOP event 2 bracelet which earned him around $1.5 million. He was voted Player of the Year in 2006.

Cuong Nguyen who at 37 is the oldest of the bunch. He is from Vietnam and a refugee of the Vietnam War who now lives in California. He is the only amateur player and his biggest tournament cash was for $1,980. Now, of course, he is already a dollar millionaire.

John Racener, a 24 year old from Florida, who has been playing poker for four years. He is a full time poker professional and his tournament winning are around $750,000.

Jason Senti who is 25 and when hot playing poker plays in a rock band in his home town of Minneapolis St Paul.

With the exception of Nguyen this is the modern face of poker – Poker the Next Generation – it should be fun.
