The countdown has begun to the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker which many consider to be the top online poker tournament in the world. It seems that the 2010 championship will be even bigger than last year ans it will smash all previous records.

There are huge prizes to be won and these attract the very top online players who compete for prizes that can reach many millions of dollars. The total prize pool is a staggering $50,000,000 and theoretically you can qualify for a piece of that action for no more than $1.00.

There are in total sixty two separate events with something for just about everybody. The biggest prize pool is of course for the Main Event (No Limit Hold’em) which has a $10 million prize pool, but there are a few additional high roller tournaments. These include a 2 day Hold’em no limit with a prize pool of $3 million, two tournaments with prize pools of $2 million, and ten other tournament with prize pools of between $1 million and $1.5 million.

If you want to buy in directly, then the minimum buy ins to tournament events are $200, and they go all the way up to $25,000 which is a No Limit Hold’em High Roller Heads-Up which is spread over two days with a guaranteed prize pool of $750,000. The buy in to the main Event is $5,000.

The tournament starts on 5th September and continues until 26th September.
