Poker Trackers – Are They Becoming a Must Have?

Sky Poker

This week on the Sky Poker television channel the issue of poker trackers was raised, and from what was said it seems that they have become a must have for anybody who takes their online poker seriously, but is using one really playing the games or is it just a cheat?

Some poker sites permit poker trackers to be used and others do not. Although Sky Poker was advocating their use, Sky Poker does not allow them to be used for people playing on their website. Also, we were told, because of the power of poker trackers and their ability to essentially look into the mind of opponents, some poker sites are now allowing their players to use multiple identities in order to hide their real identity from their opponents. Not long ago this was called multiple accounting and was entirely against the terms and conditions of poker sites. Using multiple accounts was something that could get you a suspension or even a life ban. It was also possible way to get your account confiscated, so why have the goalposts been moved so far, that is if they really have.

Poker trackers will import in real time hand histories from poker sites and will store this information in a database for subsequent analysis. Using it you can find out everything that happened in a poker session and thus analyse your own play and that of your opponents.  You can keep real time notes on the ways your opponents play and consequently build up an extensive profile on them so that next time you meet you will be at an advantage. Many poker sites do not consider this to be unfair, and so admit its use. Others, such as Sky Poker, take a different view.

The majority of poker sites do not allow you to change your screen name, but certainly some do.  One of the big players that permit this is Cake Poker, though you can only do this once every seven days.
