Phil Ivey flops on return to professional poker circuit
Phil Ivey is one of the most renowned names in professional poker; despite this, his return to the poker live tournament circuit was less successful than he would have desired...
There was a great sense of anticipation surrounding the return of Ivey, the living legend, to professional poker's live tournament circuit; Ivey chose the APPT Macau to re-immerse himself into the sport that made him a star. However, the sense of anticipation failed to live up to its hype, as Ivey went crashing out of the tournament after going bust on only the second day of play.
Ivey's professional poker career has been on somewhat of a hiatus after the unprecedented events that managed to capsize Full Tilt Poker; Ivey was a player/spokesman for the online poker giants, but ending up turning on his former employers following their indictment by the United States Government. Ivey even filed legal action against the former second largest online poker operator in the world, claiming that he was doing so in order to seek justice for all those players who had the funds in their account frozen after the company's indictment – it was only when it was revealed that Ivey was heavily in debt to Full Tilt Poker (to a figure that was estimated to be in millions of dollars), that the poker champion decided to abandon his legal action against his former employers.
Ivey did show a glimmer of his past form on the first day of the APPT Macau; during this time he managed to build up a reasonable chip stack, but wasn't able to continue this trend on the second day – this led to Ivey's swift departure after three-betting all-in with a King/Nine, which was trumped by his opponents hand of Ace/Jack.
