Richard Ashby is 38 years old and was born a Londoner though he has almost moved to the North of England; to Watford at least, anywhere above of which is considered by most Southerners to be in the north. Not that he spends that much time there – much of his time is spent competing at poker tournaments. Testimony to this is the fact that he has cashed eight times in WSOP events, though event 21 was the first time that he has won a bracelet.

The total field had been 408 players and when it came to the final table Ashby was reasonably well placed as third in the chip counts. The final heads up was with Christine Pietsch who collected up the runners up prize of $86,756.

Although this is the first time Ashby has cashed in a WSOP stud event (his previous cashes were Omaha and No Limit Texas Hold’em) he is no stranger to stud poker. Last year he won the European Masters Seven Card Stud event.

When not involved in tournaments (in which he has already clocked up approximately $800,000 in winnings) Ashby spends a great deal of time playing high stakes cash games online under the moniker Chufty.

Afterwards Ashby said that he felt good though it was taking some time to sink in. He said that he was shocked because he had spent four or five years attempting to win a WSOP tournament, adding that he was really pleased to have done so.

The other successful Brits were Praz Bansi and James Dempsey.
